Character Apartments

This project consisted of making homes for the elderly in the park De Leeuwenkuil on the Smitshoek in Bergschenhoek.

The project is set up as a cluster of blocks that focus on the surrounding park. By solving the parking internally (in a semi-sunken parking garage), the houses border directly on the greenery and the water. The communal courtyard from which the homes are accessed provides the social interaction that is so characteristic and valuable in residential projects for seniors. That this works is apparent from the successful use of the communal space 'the garden house'.

In addition to good insulation, the houses also have active sun protection in the form of Loggia sliding panels, so that cooling is not necessary. This contributes to lower energy consumption.
